What Does It Mean to Be Plastic Neutral?

We've made the switch from plastic to non-plastic. Natalist is the first and only firm in our industry to promise a net-zero plastic footprint, and we're thrilled to be able to include this in our Mother Earth project. Learn more about becoming plastic-neutral and how we're collaborating with rePurpose Global to help reduce our environmental impact.

What does it mean to be plastic neutral?

Being plastic neutral means that for every amount of plastic produced, an individual or corporation recovers and removes a measured equivalent of plastic trash from the environment through recycling/waste management initiatives or plastic offset credits. It's vital to clarify that "plastic neutral" is not the same as "plastic free," which suggests that a company doesn't use any plastic in its operations.

In our instance, being plastic neutral implies that for every pound of plastic we sell, we help to remove a pound of plastic pollution, resulting in a net-zero plastic footprint for every purchase of our products. This is accomplished through a collaboration with rePurpose Global, which helps fund and facilitate the collecting, processing, and repurposing of ocean-bound plastic garbage.

Who is rePurpose Global and what does it do?

Natalist collaborates with rePurpose Global to make our plastic-free pledge a reality. They are a global, pending B-corporation that collaborates with verified recycling projects around the world to co-design and fund supply chain solutions. They are the organisation that verifies our Certified Net Zero Plastic Footprint and holds us to our commitment.

Will you ever be rid of plastic?

We recognise that being plastic-free isn't a panacea for the world's plastic crisis, but we feel it is a start in the right way. Going plastic-free is only the first step. We're actively aiming to reduce our global impact even further by researching innovative technologies and materials that are gentler on the environment without sacrificing quality.

In August of 2020, we announced our Mother Earth sustainability campaign to highlight what we're doing now and what we're aiming for in the future. We hope you'll join us in defending Mother Nature.
